FUR CARE

A high quality fur coat that is properly cared for will last you a lifetime. Longevity, a key attribute of fur products, can only be compromised by improper care and maintenance. Following are eight basic rules to follow in caring for your garment:

  • Always store your fur garments and accessories in cold storage at the end of the season. Our premises is equipped with a temperature and humidity controlled storage facility which will preserve the life of your coat by keeping it from drying out and oxidizing.

  • Have your coat cleaned and glazed annually. Even though your fur may not look dirty, it needs to be cleaned. Cleaning removes buildup of dust and oils.

  • Have any small rips or tears fixed immediately!

  • Use broad-shouldered hangers to hang your fur. Narrow and thin hangers will cause the shoulders to lose their original shape.

  • DO NOT store your coat in any type of plastic garment bag or cover. It is always best to leave your fur without any type of covering. If you choose to cover it, use the garment bag that came with your coat.

  • If your fur gets wet, shake off the excess water and hang it on a hanger in a well-ventilated area. DO NOT blow dry, DO NOT hang over a radiator and DO NOT place in the dryer, as these will damage your coat. If it is soaked, get the garment back to us as soon as possible to allow us to properly treat it.

  • DO NOT store your coat in a cedar closet. Cedar wood absorbs moisture which can dry out your fur.

  • If your coat gets soiled, DO NOT try to clean on your own with shampoo, seltzer water or dish soap. You can try to remove the soil by patting with a damp cloth or paper towel. If that does not work, it is best to bring it to us as quickly as possible for proper cleaning.
